Inkjet vs. Toner Color Label Printers

NeuraLabel makes both inkjet- and toner-based color label printers — so what’s the difference? Inkjet-based printers use liquid inks and printheads that spray droplets of ink onto the label. Toner-based printers use a laser and a drum unit that melts dry toner onto the label with heat.

Inkjet color label printers use either dye or pigment ink. Dye-based inks are generally used to print “prime” product labels because they produce vivid colors, while pigment inks are used to print industrial and GHS chemical labels as the inks are more muted and extremely durable.

How Does the Callisto Work?

The Callisto prints high-resolution labels up to 2400 dpi using HP PageWide technology, which is based on a printhead that spans the width of the label. This technology enables the Callisto to print labels up to 12 inches wide at speeds of up to 90 feet per minute.

The Callisto uses HP pigment inks, which are more durable than dye-based inks and offer excellent resistance to sunlight, water, abrasion, and chemicals. These inks are ideal for printing industrial labels and GHS chemical labels. HP's 4-color CMYK aqueous pigment inks also produce beautiful prime labels.
