What You Need to Know About Using a Label Rewinder with Thermal Printers
While label rewinders are fairly straightforward machines, they are not all created equal. Below are a few considerations when evaluating which label rewinder is best suited for your thermal printer:
- Width – Most of these thermal printers print labels up to 4 inches wide; therefore, a label rewinder, such as the Epson TM-C3500 label rewinder) that can handle labels up to 5 inches wide is sufficient. However, some industrial barcode printers, desktop barcode printers, direct thermal printers, and thermal transfer printers may use wider labels. Thus, if your thermal label printer prints wider labels, you will need a label rewinder that can support wider labels. In this case, you’d need an 8.5-inch label rewinder such as the Label Rewinder for the Primera LX900 (RP1234-S4) listed below.
- Core Size – For thermal label printers that print up to 4-inch wide labels, core sizes can vary from 1.5 inches to 3 inches. When choosing a label rewinder for your industrial barcode printer or thermal label printer, you will need to decide which core size you want to use. This should be same size core used on your label dispenser, label applicator, or other machine that will be holding the finished labels. The most popular size is 3 inches; therefore, we recommend choosing a label rewinder with a fixed 3-inch core. We do have a version of the Epson TM-C3500 label rewinder with a variable core that can be adjusted from 1.57 inches to 3 inches.
Electric Powered Automatic Label Rewinder Features
Each of the electric powered automatic label rewinders listed below has an external power supply 100/240VAC - 2.5A at 24V. This allows an electronic circuit to provide, through the tension arm, the adjustment of the rotation’s speed and rotation’s direction. A 2A fuse is used as protection.

If you print labels that are 4 inches wide or less, then we recommend you use the ASD1114-S0 label rewinder with the 3-inch fixed core.
If you print labels that are between 4 to 8 inches wide, then we recommend using the RP1234-S4 label rewinder.
