Meet the Epson GP-C831’s Successor the Epson ColorWorks C6500A

Posted by BK on 15th Jun 2020

The Epson GP-C831 color label printer has had a great 8-year run, but it’s starting to show its age. In fact, June 15, 2020 marked the end of production and sale of this rugged and pioneering GHS color label printer. During its lifetime, the Epson GP-C831 color label printer was the color label printer of choice for many industrial and chemical manufacturing companies needing to print large format chemical drum labels, horticulture labels, wristbands, and more.

As we say goodbye to the Epson GP-C831, let’s say hello to its replacement, the new Epson ColorWorks C6500A.

Like the C831, the Epson ColorWorks C6500A color label printer prints 8-inch full color, BS5609-certified chemical labels. Where the Epson C-831 had an 8-pin tractor feeder, the Epson ColorWorks C6500 color label printer uses a more traditional roll-fed system. You can also order additional media spindles, which allow for quick roll changes between print jobs.

Both printers use individual cartridges containing pigment inks with the CW-C6500 using the newer Epson UltraChrome DL pigment inks. These inks enhance the brilliance of color and black-and-white prints and have an estimated permanence for “Advanced Black and White Print Mode” that exceeds 400 years.

The CW-C6500 is also powered by serial inkjet PrecisionCore TFP technology for increased speed (up to five inches per second) and unbeatable image quality whereas the Epson GP-C831 color label printer uses older Micro-Piezo inkjet technology. The Epson CW-C6500A also has a higher print resolution (1200dpi) than the C831 (720dpi), resulting in crisper labels and barcodes. All of these factors combine to deliver an even higher degree of print quality and ease of use that you’ve come to expect from Epson ColorWorks GHS label printers.

In addition to the performance and quality improvements, the Epson ColorWorks C6500 color label printer has been designed to compete with the industrial thermal label printers commonly used by enterprise organizations in fleet configurations. As a result, the CW-C6500A has even more features than the C831 including:

-ESC/Label and ZPL interface languages

-Integrations with Windows, Mac, Linux, SAP, and other middleware

-Remote management tools

-Built-in auto cutter (if you prefer a peeler, choose the CW-C6500P)

-Applicator I/O control port

Whether you want to configure the Epson ColorWorks C6500 color label printer as part of a larger fleet of printers, integrate it with your existing systems, add and control a label applicator, or use it as a direct replacement for an aging C831, the Epson CW-C6500A can do everything your Epson C831 can do — and more.

Check out the video below to see the Epson ColorWorks C6500A color label printer in action. We think you’ll agree that while we’re sad to see the C831 go, upgrading from the Epson GP-C831 color label printer to the Epson ColorWorks C6500A color label printer is cause for celebration.
